Changing the ASCII translation tables
You can use File Manager to translate tape data as follows:
- Translate tape input from ASCII format to EBCDIC format.
- Translate tape output from EBCDIC format to ASCII format.
- Translate tape input from ASCII format to EBCDIC format, and translate tape output from EBCDIC format to ASCII format.
If you want to use an ASCII or EBCDIC character set other than the character sets supplied by IBM®, you can change the translation table definition statements.
You use the usermod FMNUMODA and the sample member FMNASCII to change the ASCII translation tables.
- Copy the member FMNASCII from FMN.SFMNSAM1 to your own source library.
- Change the translation table definition statements in FMNASCII in your source library, as required.
- Modify the FMNUMODA member in FMN.SFMNSAM1 to meet your site's requirements. Refer to the usermod for information about changes you might need to make.
- Install SMP/E usermod FMNUMODA.
