updateDataArea()

The updateDataArea() function replaces the previous contents of a specified data area with new data. The type of the data is determined by a field in the data area definition variable that specifies the data area to be updated.

Syntax

  iplatformLib.updateDataArea(
    dataAreaDef DataAreaDefinition inOut,
    elementData ANY in )

platform

The string "Cobol" or "Java™", depending on the platform for which you are generating the program.

dataAreaDef

A variable based on the DataAreaDefinition Record (see iSeries Record definitions), identifying a specific data area.

elementData

The source for the data. The dataAreaDef.areaType determines the type of the data written to the data area. Use one of the following constants to set this value:

DATA_AREA_TYPE_CHAR: Interpret the contents of the data area as text.
DATA_AREA_TYPE_DEC: Interpret the contents of the data area as a decimal number.
DATA_AREA_TYPE_LOG: Interpret the contents of the data area as a Boolean.
