getDataArea()

The getDataArea() function returns the current contents of a specified data area.

Syntax

  iplatformLib.getDataArea(
    dataAreaDef DataAreaDefinition inOut )
  returns (result ANY)

platform

The string "Cobol" or "Java™", depending on the platform for which you are generating the program.

dataAreaDef

A variable based on the DataAreaDefinition Record (see iSeries Record definitions), identifying a specific data area.

result

The contents of the data area. The dataAreaDef.areaType determines the type of the data read from the data area. Use one of the following constants to set this value:

DATA_AREA_TYPE_CHAR: Interpret the contents of the data area as text.
DATA_AREA_TYPE_DEC: Interpret the contents of the data area as a decimal number.
DATA_AREA_TYPE_LOG: Interpret the contents of the data area as a Boolean.
