How the data set or resource list is determined

If you specify PARMLIB, PROCLIB, ddnames, RESULT or /reference_member on the EFind command, these will be used to determine the data sets to be searched.

If none of these fields is specified, the EFind command will try to determine the data sets to be searched as follows:
  • If there is an active EFind session, the current EFind data sets will be searched.
  • From an ISPF edit or view session of a member in the reference data set. The resource names specified in the member will be searched. See Specifying resource names in a reference member.
Note: You can exclude lines in the member to exclude resources from the search.
  • From an ISPF 3.4 or DSLIST display, the data sets in the list will be searched.
  • From a member list produced from ISPF 3.4 or DSLIST, the current data set name will be used.
  • From an ISPF edit or view session of a member or data set that is not the reference data set. The data set name will be used as the search data set.

However, EFind will not work from a member list produced from ISPF Option 1 (View) or ISPF Option 2 (Edit).

  • If EFind is unable to determine the data set list, then it will use the member named DEFAULT in the current reference list data set to determine the data sets to be searched. Use the EList command to view the current reference list data set and look for the member named DEFAULT to view the default search data set names.
