- Planning your upgrade
  To plan a Rational® ClearQuest® upgrade, identify prerequisite requirements for hardware and software, choose an upgrade strategy, select Rational ClearQuest features to install, understand how to upgrade Rational ClearQuest server components, and prepare your environment.

  - Restart and verify servers
    After the servers have been upgraded, restart each one and verify that it is operating correctly.
  - Clearing the browser cache
    After a Rational® ClearQuest® server upgrade, notify Rational ClearQuest Web client users to clear their browser cache, delete cookies, and temporary internet files.
  - Updating link configuration for OSLC integrations
    If you upgraded from Rational® ClearQuest® version 8.0.0.3 or earlier and your environment supports OSLC integrations, update the OSLC configuration to prevent link errors.
  - Changing the feature level and metaschema version
    Changing the Rational® ClearQuest® feature level and metaschema version can take several hours. The process changes the schema repository and all associated user databases. Typically, new tables are added to all databases, and new columns might be added to existing tables.
  - Migrating ClearQuest® Web configuration settings
    After upgrading Rational® ClearQuest®, you might want to apply the same configuration settings to Rational ClearQuest Web Server that existed in your previous configuration of ClearQuest Web. Some settings are automatically propagated during the upgrade, while others must be set manually.
  - Upgrading packages to the latest versions
    Each package has its own version number that is unrelated to the Rational® ClearQuest® product version number.

Propagating connection information to clients

If the connection information for Rational® ClearQuest® schema repositories or user databases has changed, propagate a new connection profile to Rational® ClearQuest® clients.

About this task

Use the next procedure to propagate connection information to Web server clients:

Procedure

On a Windows™ administrative host running Rational® ClearQuest®, use the Maintenance Tool to export connection profiles, and then import the connection profiles to your clients.
Run the cqreg refresh command on each install area used by Linux™ and UNIX™ system clients.
For Linux™ and the UNIX™ system clients, use the cqreg drop_dbset and cqreg add_dbset commands to drop and re-create the database connection information.

Results

These steps propagate the connection information to the clients. The connection information is retained when the clients are upgraded to latest version.
