Upgrading Rational® ClearQuest®

Review the upgrade information and complete optional and required tasks for upgrading Rational® ClearQuest®.

Before upgrading Rational® ClearQuest® clients and servers, make sure you are prepared:

Complete Rational® ClearQuest® planning including prerequisite tasks. See Planning the deployment and installation.
Understand how to install and use IBM® Installation Manager and Packaging Utility to manage product installation and upgrade tasks. See Using IBM installation and packaging utilities.
Rational® ClearQuest® version 8.0.1 requires IBM® Installation Manager version 1.6.3 or later. You cannot install or upgrade the product with earlier versions.

To make products available to non-root users, set the umask variable to 0022, before you install ClearQuest® on a Linux™ or UNIX™ system.	Client Server	To set the umask variable: Log in as root user. Start a terminal session. Type umask 0022.

Use the IBM® Packaging Utility if you want to install multiple DevOps products in the same repository. For best results, before you work with your DevOps product, increase the number of file handles available.	Client Server	Increasing the number of file handles on Linux workstations	How to set a limit to a number significantly larger than 1024.
Verify that the user or administrator upgrading the product has the required access privileges.	Client Server	User privilege requirements for installing the product
Upgrade licensing software	Client Server	Installing License Key Administrator Note: This step is required only when upgrading from version 7.0.x or 7.1.1 to version 8.0.1 or later. If the license server is not upgraded, thenRational® ClearQuest® 8.x users cannot contact the license server. If you are upgrading from version 7.1.2, this step is not required. Version 7.1.2 uses Rational® Common Licensing 8.1.1, which is compatible with this release.	This step is required only when upgrading from version 7.0.x or 7.1.1 to version 8.0.1.
