Decide whether to upgrade the entire Rational® ClearQuest®: environment at the same time or upgrade in phases. Both strategies offer their own advantages and disadvantages. In the end however, all clients and Rational ClearQuest servers must be upgraded to the same release.

To upgrade your environment at one time:

Stop Rational® ClearQuest® operations.
(Optional) Upgrade vendor databases.
Upgrade all servers to the target version, including the Rational® ClearQuest® MultiSite synchronization servers, web servers, and the Rational® Shipping Server.
Upgrade all clients to the same version installed on the servers.
Raise the feature level for Rational® ClearQuest® schema repositories and user databases to the recommended level.
Implement new features and upgrade packages to the targeted version.
Resume operations.
