  To plan a Rational® ClearQuest® upgrade, identify prerequisite requirements for hardware and software, choose an upgrade strategy, select Rational ClearQuest features to install, understand how to upgrade Rational ClearQuest server components, and prepare your environment.

Considerations for upgrading licensing

Rational® ClearQuest® version 8.0.x supports DevOps Common Licensing. Based on your upgrade path, determine whether you must upgrade your licensing server and client software and migrate existing licenses to support the newer version.

Rational® ClearQuest® version 8.0.x requires DevOps Common Licensing version 8.1.3. Because DevOps Common Licensing is compatible with an earlier version, you can use either of these versions to manage licenses for Rational® ClearQuest® version 7.1.1 and earlier.

Upgrading from ClearQuest® version 7.1.2 or later

When you upgrade from ClearQuest® version 7.1.2 or later to version 8.0.x, upgrade the Rational® licensing software to version 8.1.3.

Upgrading from ClearQuest® version 7.0.x or 7.1.x

Before you upgrade Rational® ClearQuest®, you must upgrade the Rational® licensing software for administering product licenses.

On Windows™ systems, you must install the License Key Administrator software, version 8.1.3 or later if you want modify your licensing settings.
On Windows™ platforms, you must update the search order for license keys in the DevOps License Key Administrator (LKAD).

Note: In ClearQuest® versions earlier than 7.1.2, the License Key Administrator was installed during the Rational® ClearQuest® installation process in the following directory C:\Program Files\IBM\RationalSDLC\common. In ClearQuest® versions 7.1.2 and later, the License Key Administrator is installed as a separate product into this directory: C:\Program Files\IBM\RationalRLKS. If the older version of the LKAD program is still installed, you will be prompted to uninstall it during the Rational® ClearQuest® upgrade process.
