Before installing Rational® ClearQuest®, complete planning tasks to determine what ClearQuest components to install, review system requirements, and complete required and optional configuration tasks to prepare your environment for the ClearQuest installation process.

  - Planning the deployment and installation
    Before installing Rational® ClearQuest®, complete planning tasks to determine what ClearQuest components to install, review system requirements, and complete required and optional configuration tasks to prepare your environment for the ClearQuest installation process.
    - Hardware, software, and database requirements
      Review the requirements information to identify operating system, file system, and compatibility requirements, prerequisite tasks, and other information that is required to install or upgrade Rational® ClearQuest®.
    - Select Rational® ClearQuest® clients
      Determine the clients that are required for each site to plan the deployment and obtain the required licenses.
    - Decide on the feature level
      Determine whether to use feature level 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 or 10 for Rational® ClearQuest® user databases and schema repositories. The feature level determines the ClearQuest features available after deployment. Changes to the feature level might require upgrading the ClearQuest databases and schema repositories. You must also ensure that all ClearQuest clients are running a ClearQuest version that supports the selected feature level.
    - Plan your Rational® ClearQuest® database set architecture
      Determine the number of schema repositories and user databases required for Rational® ClearQuest® environment and the vendor databases and servers that support your database set.
    - Prerequisite tasks by platform
      For Rational® ClearQuest® to function properly on some of its supported platforms, certain tasks must be performed before installing the software.
    - Vendor database configuration
      Rational® ClearQuest® schema repositories and user databases are types of databases that are physically managed by a database management system. Depending on your operating system, these management systems might include Microsoft™ SQL Server, Oracle RDBMS, IBM® DB2®, or the subset of DB2 functionality available as part of IBM DB2 UDB components for Rational products.
    - Licensing requirements
      Setting up DevOps Licensing, which is powered by FLEXlm, is a key part of the installation process that must be completed before you install DevOps products.
      - Web client licensing
        To make Rational® ClearQuest® Web available for use, your license administrator must install floating licenses on a DevOps License Server.
      - Rational® ClearQuest® MultiSite licensing
        Rational® ClearQuest® MultiSite requires a license for both Rational ClearQuest and Rational ClearQuest MultiSite. Any access to a replicated database also requires both licenses.

    You must have a user ID that meets the following requirements before you can install the product.

  - Installing silently
    Use IBM Installation Manager to run a silent install of a DevOps product. When you run a silent install, the Installation Manager interface is not available. Installation Manager uses a response file that contains commands required to install the product package.

    The following steps describe how to install the product package by using the Installation Manager graphical user interface (GUI). You can optionally install product updates at the same time that the base product package is installed; skip the update steps in this topic if they do not apply to your installation.

Licensing requirements

Setting up DevOps Licensing, which is powered by FLEXlm, is a key part of the installation process that must be completed before you install DevOps products.

Rational® ClearQuest® version 8.0.1 requires these versions of the DevOps licensing tools.

DevOps License Server versions 8.1.3 or later
DevOps License Key Administrator 8.1.3 or later (Windows™ only)

Use the DevOps License Server to administer license keys for DevOps Rational® ClearQuest®. After the Rational® ClearQuest® License Key Server has been set up, the method for managing license keys depends on the operating system where DevOps products are deployed.

: DevOps License Server for Windows™ includes the License Key Administrator or LKAD client to enter or import license keys, and change license configuration on Rational® ClearQuest® clients and servers hosted on the Windows™ platform. LKAD is required to manage licensing on these systems.
: The DevOps License Server for Linux™ and UNIX™ systems provides a set of system administration commands to manage license keys.

Rational® ClearQuest® also supports token licensing. If a DevOps tool checks out a feature that is token-based, the FEATURE line in the license file specifies the number of tokens that are checked out. Token-based licenses can only be used with floating licenses. You cannot use token licenses as authorized user licenses. For more details about token licensing, contact your local IBM® marketing representative.
