Viewing references

You can view the references of a response that contains multiple matches for the regular expression in a test. You can also modify, or verify the references associated with a test or test elements references in a test.

Procedure

  1. Go to the Test Navigator, and double-click the test name.
    The test is displayed in the Test Contents.
  2. Select the entire test or a test element.
  3. In the Test Contents, click Options > Data Correlation > Show References.
    If you selected the entire test, you can view the list of references associated with the test, and if you select a test element, then the references associated with the element are displayed on the Test References page.
  4. Perform any of the following tasks:
    Option Description
    Preview You can view the preview of the references in the preview pane. You can click the following options to view the references in a different layout. The options are:
    • Horizontal layout
    • Show selection as inline text fragment
    • Show selection as test hierarchy tree
    The following table lists the references displayed in the References table:
    Option Description
    Name Displays the unique identification of the test reference.
    Referenced Text (Value) Displays a text or a value referenced in a test.
    Occurrence Displays the number of occurrences of the referenced text.
    Usage Displays the number of times the referenced text is used in a test.
    Type Displays the type of correlation that is configured for test references. The types of correlation are Auto, User, or Rule.
  5. Perform any of the following tasks:

    Viewing details about references You can click the following options to view the details about the references.
    Icon Description
    next and previous icon

    You can click the Next icon to move the selection either down or click the Previous icon to move the selection up on the list of references.

    regular expression icon

    You can click the Replace regular expression icon to replace the regular expression value of the selected reference with another regular expression value.

    You can enter a value in the Replace field, and then enter a value to be replaced in the With field in the Test Editor – Replace regular expression dialog.
    revert icon You can click the Revert regular expression changes icon to revert the regular expression changes that you performed.
    disable

    You can select the Disable checkbox to disable the selected reference.
    clear reference

    You can click the Clear Reference icon to remove the reference from the test.
    show as tree

    You can click the Show as Tree icon to toggle between the tree format and list format.
    show usage icon

    You can click the Show Usage icon to view the substitution sites that are associated with each reference.

    bookmark

    You can click the Bookmark icon to bookmark a location for later review.

    more option

    You can click the More Options icon to view the list of references. You can select any of the options to display in the reference table.
    Finding more locations in the test that contain the same value as the selected reference You can select a reference, and then click Find and Substitute. The locations can be reviewed and substituted interactively as needed.
    Modifying a reference You can select a reference, and then click Properties.

    Test Element Properties dialog is displayed. You can edit or modify the test references.
    Using regular expression assistant to edit regular expression
    1. You can select a reference, and then click Properties.

      Test Element Properties dialog is displayed.

    2. You can click the Toggle regular expression assistant push button on the Properties dialog. The regular expression assistant is displayed. The response data that is matched by the current reference is automatically copied into the Test regular expression tab.
    3. You can click the Captured group tab in the regular expression assistant. The regular expression assistant displays the response content that is matched by the regular expression and the groups that are captured by the regular expression. If no groups are displayed, edit the regular expression accordingly.
    Verifying regular expressions that are associated with references You can select the checkbox next to each reference to verify, and then click Verify Checked. The verification process completes this procedure:
    • Checks that the regular expression finds the correct value. Regular expressions can stop working if you modify a test.
    • Checks that there are no references with duplicate names. Troubleshooting data correlation problems is easier if references have unique names.
    • Checks that there are no overlapping correlations.
    Removing a reference You can select a reference, and then click the Clear Reference clear reference icon. The reference is removed from the test when you close the Test References page.
  6. Click Close to close the Test References page and return to the test in the test editor.

Results

You have viewed the list of references associated with test or test elements. You have verified and modified the references in a test.
