- Installation introduction
  This section contains the instructions to install, update, and uninstall your product.
- Planning the installation
  Before you install or update the product, plan the installation. When you effectively plan and understand the key aspects of the installation process, you can ensure a successful installation.
  - Installation road map
    The installation road map lists the high-level steps for installing your product.
  - Installation Manager
    You can use IBM® Installation Manager to install, update, and modify IBM software packages. You can also track what you installed, determine what is available to install, and organize installation directories.
  - Installation requirements
    To install the product, you must meet several requirements, including requirements for hardware, software, server environment, and operating systems.
  - Installation considerations
    As you plan your installation, determine the details of the installation.
    - Installation directories
      IBM® Installation Manager uses two directories when installing product artifacts: the shared resources directory and the package group.
    - Coexistence considerations
      If you have other Rational® products installed on your computer, review the information in this section.
    - Extending an existing Eclipse IDE
      When you install the IBM® Rational® Business Developer product package, you can choose to extend an Eclipse integrated development environment (IDE) already installed on your computer by adding the functions that the product package contains.
    - Features to install
      You can customize your product by selecting which features to install.
    - Web-based help content
      Remote help is available and is enabled by default. You can use remote help to retrieve the latest product documentation from the web. Other alternatives are available for those who are working offline or who lack access to the Internet altogether. In any case, the installation provides only a small percentage of the help that is available.
- Preinstallation tasks
  To prepare for and simplify the installation process, back up files, prepare databases and servers where required, and configure workstations.
- Installing Rational® Business Developer
  To install IBM Rational Business Developer, follow the procedures in this section.
- Installing WebSphere® Application Server
  You can install WebSphere® Application Server.
- Post-installation tasks
  After you install your product, complete post-installation tasks, configure your product, and then start the product.
- Modifying software
  With the Modify Packages wizard in IBM® Installation Manager, you can change the language and feature selections of an installed product package. You can also use the Modify Packages wizard to install new features that might be included in a package update, such as a refresh pack.
- Updating software
  You can search for product updates and install the updates for your IBM® product.
- Reverting updates to previous versions
  You can remove an update to a package in order to revert to a previous version by using the Roll Back wizard of IBM® Installation Manager.
- Uninstalling software
  Use the IBM® Installation Manager to uninstall your product. If no other products are installed, you can uninstall Installation Manager also.
- Installing silently
  You can install a product package silently by using either Installation Manager in silent installation mode or by using IBM® Installation Manager installer. When you run Installation Manager in silent mode, the user interface is not available; instead, a response file inputs the commands that are required to install the product package.
