Enterprise Generation Language (EGL) is a programming language that you can use to focus on business problems instead of software technologies. Within the Rational® development environment, you can use EGL wizards and other tools to write complex applications with minimal effort.

The EGL Language Reference covers the fundamental use of the language, including its concepts, syntax, and keywords. This volume is intended for a developer writing EGL applications with some experience in procedural programming.
Accessing data in EGL
Whenever you access a data store in EGL, the data goes into a record.

        The hierarchy property contains an array of @relationship complex properties.
        pcbName
        The pcbName property specifies the name of PCB on the host system.
        pcbType
        The pcbType property defines the way the PCB is used on the host system.
        @relationship
        The @relationship complex property contains property fields that describe the structure of a hierarchical database.
        secondaryIndex
        The secondaryIndex property specifies a secondary key for a DL/I database on the host.
        secondaryIndexItem
        The secondaryIndexItem property specifies a field in an EGL DLISegmentRecord to use as a secondary key for DL/I database access.
        PSB scheduling for CICS® environments
        PSB scheduling is handled differently in the CICS® environment than in non-CICS environments.
        PSB scheduling for non-CICS environments
        In non-CICS environments, PSB scheduling is handled differently than in CICS® environments.

        EGL supports DL/I (Data Language/I), a hierarchical database manager for COBOL environments.

Additional properties for PCB records

The standard properties available for Record parts (see BasicRecord properties) are also available for the four PCB record stereotypes:

IO_ PCBRecord
ALT_PCBRecord
DB_PCBRecord
GSAM_PCBRecord

However, these standard properties are not useful in this context. The following property is the only one that makes sense for a record with a PCB stereotype.
