Specifying value input and out columns
The input column field (In)
defines the start location of the input field value on the value
data set and is used when the translate process is run during a
copy operation to match the input field with a value on the value
data
set. The length of the field is set to the length of the input
field that is mapped to this field during the copy process.
Note: This value is only required when you select
Scramble Type 3 ("Translate").
The output column
field Out
defines the start location of the output field value on the
value data set and is used in these ways during a copy operation:
- Translate. If an input field value is matched on the value data set, then the corresponding output value is used.
- Random or Repeatable. The input value is used to randomly, or repeatably, select an output value from the value data set.
The length of the field is the field
length as displayed on
the Field Attributes panel.
Note: This value is required when you select
Scramble Type 3 ("Translate").
If you select Scramble Type 1 ("Random") or 2 ("Repeatable"), and you have also selected the Value option, then the output column defaults to 1 if you have specified a value data set name (Dsn).
