When you migrate to the latest version of IBM Z Software Asset Management from an earlier version, you must convert existing data to be compatible with your new environment.
Migrating to IBM Z Software Asset Management from an earlier version
You can upgrade to IBM Z Software Asset Management 8.3.1 from IBM Z Software Asset Management 8.3, or from IBM Z Software Asset Management 8.2, on either a Db2® Repository database or an SQLite database. Optionally, you can use another approach to migrate, where repository data from 8.1 or 8.2 is unloaded and then reloaded to a newly defined 8.3.1 repository.

    You can upgrade to IBM Z Software Asset Management 8.3.1 from IBM Z Software Asset Management 8.3, or from IBM Z Software Asset Management 8.2, on either a Db2® Repository database or an SQLite database. Optionally, you can use another approach to migrate, where repository data from 8.1 or 8.2 is unloaded and then reloaded to a newly defined 8.3.1 repository.
    - Migrating from IBM Z Software Asset Management 8.3 to IBM Z Software Asset Management 8.3.1 (Db2® database)
      When you upgrade to IBM Z Software Asset Management 8.3.1 for Db2® database, no porting of data within the Repository database is required, as there are no changes to database objects. The 8.3 and 8.3.1 GKB databases are identical, so no changes are required. To use the new REST API feature, see REST API.
    - Migrating from IBM Z Software Asset Management 8.3 to IBM Z Software Asset Management 8.3.1 (SQLite database)
      When you upgrade to IBM Z Software Asset Management 8.3.1 for SQLite database, no porting of data within the Repository database is required as there are no changes to database objects. The 8.3 and 8.3.1 GKB databases are identical, so no changes are required.

      When you upgrade to IBM Z Software Asset Management 8.3.1 for Db2® database, there is porting of data within the Repository database. New Db2 objects are defined in the Repository. The existing 8.2 GKB database is dropped and re-created with the same database name for 8.3.1.
    - Migrating from IBM Z Software Asset Management 8.2 to IBM Z Software Asset Management 8.3.1 (SQLite database)
      When you upgrade to IBM Z Software Asset Management 8.3.1 for SQLite database, there is some porting of data within the Repository database. New SQLite objects are defined in the Repository. The existing 8.2 GKB database is dropped and re-created with the same database name for 8.3.1.
    - Migrating from IBM Tivoli Asset Discovery for z/OS 8.1 to IBM Z Software Asset Management 8.3.1 (optional)
      If you wish to port data from IBM Tivoli Asset Discovery for z/OS 8.1 to IBM Z Software Asset Management 8.3.1, you need to unload data from the 8.1 repository and reload the unloaded data into a new 8.3.1 repository. Note: This migration path is recommended for porting only a small 8.1 repository from one system/site to another. This means the upgrade is from 8.1 to 8.3.1, bypassing 8.2. Please read the description in job HSISYS28 before considering this migration path.
    - Migrating from IBM Z Software Asset Management 8.2 to IBM Z Software Asset Management 8.3.1 (optional)
      If you wish to port data from IBM Z Software Asset Management 8.2 to IBM Z Software Asset Management 8.3.1, you need to unload data from the 8.2 repository and reload the unloaded data into a new IBM Z Software Asset Management 8.3.1 repository. Note: This migration path is recommended for porting only a small 8.2 repository from one system/site to another. Please read the description in job HSISYS29 before considering this migration path.
