Installing and configuring the agent for z/OS

Before you can use Rational® Integration Tester to record and virtualize Db2® activity in COBOL and PL/I applications on z/OS® systems, you must install and configure the agent for z/OS.

Before you begin

You must have completed the following tasks:
  • Installed the IBM z/OS Debugger component.

See Testing with IBM Db2 on z/OS systems for a list of products that provide IBM z/OS Debugger component.

  • Installed and configured the Profile Service provided with IBM z/OS Debugger when the following conditions are satisfied:
    • You want to intercept Db2 calls from CICS.
    • You do not want to use the CEEOPTS DD statement within batch jobs to specify all required parameters for connecting to the Agent for z/OS.
  • Installed Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.8 or later, or Java Developer Kit (JDK) on the computer on which you want to install the agent for z/OS.

Procedure

  1. Open the Tools page of Rational® Test Control Panel.

For more information about installing the tools packages, see the related links.

  2. Download the tools component named Integration Tester agent for z/OS.
  3. Extract the contents to a temporary folder on your computer.
The extracted contents in the temporary folder are as follows:
    • Compressed files that contain the Windows and Linux versions of the agent.
    • A registration.xml file.
    • A Readme-zosAgent-installation.txt file.
  4. Transfer the compressed file for your operating system and the registration.xml file to the computer where you want to run the agent, and then extract the contents of the compressed file.
The registration.xml file must be placed in the same directory where the zosAgent is placed.
Note: If you are running the zosAgent on Linux, use the chmod command to grant execute permission to zosAgent.
  5. Open the registration.xml file and perform the following steps:
    1. Verify that the IP address and port numbers used by Rational® Test Control Panel are set correctly in the server base-url attribute.
    2. Set the rds-port to the port number that you want to use for connections from the z/OS Debugger to the agent.
  6. Start the agent for z/OS by running zosAgent.
