Tester Guide
This guide describes the tasks that you can perform for testing various domains, technologies, and applications. To enable testing, you must configure and enable the environment for testing.
Integration Tester Guide (Service Virtualization)
This guide describes the tasks that you can perform for using virtual services or stubs to simulate parts of an environment if the real services are not yet available or because they are difficult or expensive to use. This guide is intended for Integration Testers.
Publishing and running stubs
You can publish stubs that are created in IBM® Rational® Integration Tester to IBM Rational Test Control Panel, Dockerfile and build context, Kubernetes, or Istio, if the stub is based on a supported transport.
Controlling running stubs
You can control stubs that are running in a number of ways.
Viewing stub logs
IBM® Rational® Test Control Panel enables IBM Rational Test Virtualization Server users to view the console output of stubs that ran in the selected domain and environment.

        Locking and unlocking environments
        Locking a IBM® Rational® Test Control Panel environment prevents other users from starting or stopping stubs in that environment.
        Viewing broken stub messages
        On IBM® Rational® Test Control Panel Environments Dashboard page, if a stub fails to start (irrespective of from where the stub is started) and displays a Broken state, placing your mouse pointer over the stub displays a message about the possible cause for the Broken state. See the Agent logs for more details of the cause.

        IBM® Rational® Test Control Panel enables IBM Rational Test Virtualization Server users to view the console output of stubs that ran in the selected domain and environment.
        Query Docker container logs
        You can use the docker logs commands to query Docker container logs.
        Debugging message-based stubs
        Use the Message Differences window or options available within the stub console display to debug message-based stubs.

Viewing stub logs

IBM® Rational® Test Control Panel enables IBM® Rational® Test Virtualization Server users to view the console output of stubs that ran in the selected domain and environment.

About this task

You can see the results only if logging to a project results database is enabled when the stub is deployed. To verify that the stub was configured to log, check the Environments Dashboard for Rational® Test Control Panel (or in Rational® Integration Tester). If a domain-level project results database override was set up for the selected domain, only the results database specified in the override is used for displaying the console output of stubs in that domain.

If no overrides exist, the results databases for all projects published to the currently selected environment that contain the selected stub are used to display the console output of that stub.

When stub logs are viewed, the connection to the specified project results database is made from the system running Rational® Test Control Panel. When a stub writes its logs, the connection is made from the system running the agent upon which the stub is running. (This may not be the system running Rational® Test Control Panel.)

Note: When you set the logging level to Normal, log messages are written to the project results database. When you set it to Debug, more messages (in addition to those found in the project results database, if any) are written to the Rational® Integration Tester Agent log file. The following procedure applies to viewing the logs that are only stored in the project results database.

Procedure

On Rational® Test Control Panel Results page, specify the results database and the stub for which, you want to view the log details.
Enter a date range if applicable, and click Search.
Select the stub from the results to display the activities performed.

Note: If the log panel is not displayed or if an empty log panel is displayed, refer to Troubleshooting stubs.
