    A diagram is provided to show you a basic task flow that can help you get started with some of the features of the tool to test the system. After you configure the complete setup for testing, you can do the tasks in sequence to test the application.

- Testing methodology
  By following four basic guidelines, you can incorporate HCL OneTest™ API into your testing methodology. These guidelines drive efficient and expedient integration testing, and they can be applied to your testing process and infrastructure requirements.
- Service-oriented architecture (SOA) testing
  A SOA consists of business processes that are implemented by linking individual services. The linking can be done programmatically or with tools based on Business Process Execution Language (BPEL). Note: From Test Workbench version 8.7 onwards, the HCL OneTest™ API Platform Pack component does not exist. All the technology-specific tool packages are now available with the HCL Quality Server. For more information about the tool packages, see HCL OneTest™ API tool packages.

HCL OneTest™ API

With HCL OneTest™ API, you get a scripting-free environment for developing tests for SOA messaging and business process integration projects. You can build tests by recording existing system behaviors or from requirements, by entering the data to send and the data that is expected in return. You can also create virtual services to remove test dependencies and enable earlier testing. Virtual services can be deployed by Service Virtualization to provide on-demand virtualized test environments that can support all phases of the test development lifecycle.

HCL Quality Server

The HCL Quality Server is a server-based web application providing a central repository for virtualized services. The server allows you to use virtual services published with HCL OneTest™ API to create, share, and deploy virtualized test environments in HCL OneTest™ Virtualization.

It also contains technology-specific components used by HCL OneTest™ API for recording SOA message conversations, HTTP(S) and JDBC traffic, and for monitoring middleware systems under test with minimal reconfiguration of client applications
