Installing Rational® Business Developer
To install IBM Rational Business Developer, follow the procedures in this section.
Installing from the Setup disk
The Setup disk includes the launchpad program, which provides you with a location to start the installation process.
Starting the installation from the Setup disc
To install IBM Rational Business Developer as a non-administrator, you must manually run the userinst program from the Setup disc instead of running the launchpad program. The userinst program provides the same functionality as the launchpad program.

  With the Modify Packages wizard in IBM® Installation Manager, you can change the language and feature selections of an installed product package. You can also use the Modify Packages wizard to install new features that might be included in a package update, such as a refresh pack.
- Updating software
  You can search for product updates and install the updates for your IBM® product.
- Reverting updates to previous versions
  You can remove an update to a package in order to revert to a previous version by using the Roll Back wizard of IBM® Installation Manager.
- Uninstalling software
  Use the IBM® Installation Manager to uninstall your product. If no other products are installed, you can uninstall Installation Manager also.
- Installing silently
  You can install a product package silently by using either Installation Manager in silent installation mode or by using IBM® Installation Manager installer. When you run Installation Manager in silent mode, the user interface is not available; instead, a response file inputs the commands that are required to install the product package.

Starting the installation from the Setup disc

To install IBM Rational Business Developer as a non-administrator, you must manually run the userinst program from the Setup disc instead of running the launchpad program. The userinst program provides the same functionality as the launchpad program.

Procedure

To start the installation as a non-administrator from the Setup disc, complete the following steps:
- If you are installing from the DVDs, do these steps:
  1. Insert the Setup disc into your drive.
  2. Mount the drive.
  3. If autorun is enabled on your computer, the launchpad program starts automatically. Stop the launchpad program.
  4. On a command line, change to the root of the Setup disc, and complete the step that applies to your operating system:
    - Type InstallerImage_win32\userinst.exe.
    - Type InstallerImage_linux/userinst.
- If you are installing from electronic discs that you downloaded from IBM® Passport Advantage®, open a command line. Change to the directory where you extracted the disc images, and complete the step that applies to your operating system:
  - Type RBD_SETUP\InstallerImage_win32\userinst.exe.
  - Type RBD_SETUP/InstallerImage_linux/userinst.
To start the installation as an administrator from the Setup disc, complete the following steps:
- If you are installing from the DVDs, do these steps:
  1. Insert the Setup DVD into your DVD drive.
  2. Mount the DVD drive.
  3. If autorun is enabled on your computer, the launchpad program starts automatically. Stop the launchpad program.
  4. On a command line, change to the root of the Setup disc and complete the step that applies to your operating system:
    - Type InstallerImage_win32\install.exe.
    - Type InstallerImage_linux/install.
- If you are installing from electronic discs that you downloaded from IBM® Passport Advantage®, open a command line. Change to the directory where you extracted the disc images, and complete the step that applies to your operating system:
  - Type RBD_SETUP\InstallerImage_win32\install.exe.

Results

When the userinst or installation program starts, IBM® Installation Manager is installed if it is not already on your computer. Installation Manager is configured with the location of the installation files for IBM Rational Business Developer.
