- Installation introduction
  This section contains the instructions to install, update, and uninstall your product.
- Planning the installation
  Before you install or update the product, plan the installation. When you effectively plan and understand the key aspects of the installation process, you can ensure a successful installation.

      If your team environment supports floating license enforcement, including token licensing, you can activate floating licenses for your product and configure a connection to access floating license keys.

    Help content is available in a product information center on the Internet. You can access this web-based help from within the product.
  - Specifying the repository
    A repository is a location for storing installation or update package data. By default, IBM® Installation Manager uses an embedded URL in each product package.
- Modifying software
  With the Modify Packages wizard in IBM® Installation Manager, you can change the language and feature selections of an installed product package. You can also use the Modify Packages wizard to install new features that might be included in a package update, such as a refresh pack.
- Updating software
  You can search for product updates and install the updates for your IBM® product.
- Reverting updates to previous versions
  You can remove an update to a package in order to revert to a previous version by using the Roll Back wizard of IBM® Installation Manager.
- Uninstalling software
  Use the IBM® Installation Manager to uninstall your product. If no other products are installed, you can uninstall Installation Manager also.
- Installing silently
  You can install a product package silently by using either Installation Manager in silent installation mode or by using IBM® Installation Manager installer. When you run Installation Manager in silent mode, the user interface is not available; instead, a response file inputs the commands that are required to install the product package.

License activation

Whether you are installing software for the first time or are extending a license to continue using the product, you have options to enable your product license.

Licenses for this product are enabled in two ways:

Importing a product activation kit
Enabling Rational® Common Licensing to obtain access to floating license keys

Note:

If you are using a trial license, it will expire after a preset amount of time after you install the product. To use the product after the trial license expires, you must activate a either a permanent or floating license for your product.

Activation kits

A license activation kits contain the permanent license key for your product. You purchase the activation kit, download the activation kit compressed file, and then import the activation kit JAR file to enable the license for your product. Use IBM® Installation Manager to import the activation kit to your product.

Floating license enforcement

Optionally, you can obtain floating license keys, install IBM® Rational® License Server, and enable floating license enforcement for your product.

If you use floating licenses for your product, including token licenses, you must upgrade your license key server to IBM® License Key Server, Version 8.1.1, before installing the product. You can use IBM® License Key Server, Version 8.1.1 with earlier versions of the product.
