Customizing for processing PL/I include books

File Manager provides a choice of two internal PL/I compilers that are used in any addition to external PL/I compiler previously installed.

The File Manager internal PL/I compiler to be used is selected with the ALTPLI option. See ALTPLI.

The SHOWPLI command can be used to display the PL/I compiler being used.

File Manager uses its internal PL/I compilers instead of the licensed site compiler. Use the ALTPLI option to select the version of the internal compiler. For more information, see the Available COBOL compilers for details.

For information about using a licensed site PL/I compiler, see Using a licensed site COBOL compiler. For information about using the File Manager internal PL/I compiler, see Using the File Manager COBOL compiler.

If you want to use File Manager view, edit, copy, print, or data create functions with a PL/I include book, you must use the Language Environment® runtime library.

To ensure that you use the correct Language Environment® runtime, either add the Language Environment® runtime library, SCEERUN, to your LINKLIST, or add it to the STEPLIB DD statement in your TSO logon procedure.

Table 1. PL/I compiler order of precedence
Option Version PL/I Module Notes
FMNPL/I DD DUMMY Internal FM provided Allocated in JCL or TSO command
FMNPL/I DSN=library External IBM®PL/I Allocated in JCL or TSO command
RACROUTE ATUS=ACCESS FACILITY Class PROFILE FILEM.PLI.EXTERN AL CONTROL access or higher External IBM®PL/I Force File Manager to use an external PL/I compiler
If none of the above Internal Default. See ALTPLI.

SHOWPLI command

The SHOWPLI command displays the level of the internal PL/I compiler or if the usage of external PL/I compiler is in effect.

In batch, submit a File Manager batch job with the following control statement:
$$FILEM SHOWPLI

If a licensed PL/I compiler is available, the output includes the following message: FMNB920I The Customer Licensed PL/I Compiler will be used.

If the File Manager supplied PL/I compiler is used, the output includes the following message: FMNB925I The File Manager supplied PL/I Compiler will be used.

Under ISPF, enter SHOWPLI on any File Manager command line alternatively the following messages, according to the PL/I complier in use.
Using FM PL/I V61
The File Manager supplied Vxx PL/I Compiler will be used

Or

FMNPLI is allocated
The licensed PL/I Compiler in library dataset name allocated via FMNPLI will be used.
