Preparing to customize FM/CICS

FM/CICS runs by means of a CICS® transaction, either by submitting a batch job or communicating with the ADFzCC server, which communicates with the CICS® transaction via TCP/IP. There are a number of steps you need to perform to customize and facilitate this process.

Before you can install and customize FM/CICS, you must have installed the File Manager base function. These topics assume you have installed FM/CICS into the same target and distribution libraries as File Manager base function, with one exception: FM/CICS load modules are installed by default into FMN.SFMNMOD2, whereas File Manager base function and the other File Manager component load modules are installed into FMN.SFMNMOD1.

Apart from the load modules, you could encounter problems using File Manager if you do not install FM/CICS in the same libraries as the base function.

Before you can use FM/CICS you must customize FM/CICS and the operating environment, as described in this section. You must also install and optionally customize ADFz Common Components, as described in Customizing ADFz Common Components for use with FM/CICS.

The FM/CICS interface allows you to process CICS® resources through a CICS® terminal session. You can also optionally invoke the File Manager base function, FM/Db2, and FM/IMS interfaces through your FM/CICS session.

If you plan to use the ADFzCC server method for the CICS® FMN transaction, you must also complete the customization of the ADFzCC server, as described in Customizing the ADFz Common Components server.

If you plan to run the File Manager base function interface through the FM/CICS session, you must first complete the installation and customization of the File Manager base function, as described in Customizing File Manager.

If you plan to run the FM/IMS interface through the FM/CICS session, you must first complete the installation and customization of FM/IMS as described in Customizing File Manager IMS Component.

If you plan to run the FM/Db2 interface through the FM/CICS session, you must first complete the installation and customization of FM/Db2 as described in Customizing File Manager Db2 Component.

Summary of steps for customizing FM/CICS and the operating environment lists the customization tasks you can perform for FM/CICS. Read the referenced sections in the table to determine the customization you need to do.
