About accessing VOBs across platforms of different types
Your DevOps Code ClearCase® administrator sets up VOBs on hosts running Windows® or Linux® or UNIX system software and creates VOB tags in each DevOps Code ClearCase® network region that needs to access the VOBs. (For information about registering Linux or UNIX VOB tags on a Windows® computer, see the DevOps Code ClearCase Administrator's Guide.) Then, from any DevOps Code ClearCase® host running Windows® or Linux® or UNIX software, you can create snapshot views to load elements from VOBs that have tags in your network region.
From dynamic views and snapshot views on a DevOps Code ClearCase® host on a Windows® computer that supports dynamic views, you can access VOBs on Windows® computers and Linux® and UNIX workstations. To access VOBs on Linux® and UNIX workstations from dynamic views on Windows® computers, you must use vendor software that provides access to Linux® and UNIX file systems from Windows® computers.
From dynamic views on a DevOps Code ClearCase® host on a Linux or UNIX workstation, you cannot access VOBs on Windows® computers. The table shown here summarizes your options for accessing VOBs across platforms of different types.
| DevOps Code ClearCase® host platform | Platform on which VOB is located | Type of view from which you can access source files |
|---|---|---|
| Windows® computer | Windows® computer or Linux or UNIX workstation | Snapshot view or dynamic view |
| Linux or UNIX workstation | Windows® computer | Snapshot view |
| Linux or UNIX workstation | Linux or UNIX workstation | Snapshot view or dynamic view |
