      If you are installing for the first time on your client host, you might want to customize your environment to make it easier to use DevOps Code ClearCase®.
      - Modifying the search path to include the bin directory
        As part of the post-installation procedures, the search path of each client host environment must include the DevOps Code ClearCase® bin directory.
      - Modify the search path for reference pages
        The standard man and xman commands can locate reference page files in various locations. These programs can use (but do not require) a search path specified by the MANPATH environment variable. If you want to read DevOps Code ClearCase® reference pages using these programs, add the DevOps Code ClearCase man directory to your reference pages search path.
      - Other DevOps Code ClearCase® search paths
        DevOps Code ClearCase® uses configuration files and environment variables to find various other resources that it might require during processing. In particular, some DevOps Code ClearCase utilities need a way to distinguish different file types (text and binary files, for example) or to find a text editor. The graphical tools also need access to file typing data, icons and bitmaps, X Window System resource schemes, group files, and text editors.
    - Set up ACLs on new and existing VOBs
      Before you introduce ACL-enabled VOBs into the ClearCase® environment, complete administrative tasks to prepare the VOB to support and enforce ACLs. The required tasks are different depending on whether you are using a new VOB created in version 8.0.1, or an existing VOB upgraded to version 8.0.1.

      To ensure a high-security Transport Layer Security (TLS) deployment by default, TLS ciphers are enabled for use by clients and servers according to software standards.

Customizing a client host environment for DevOps Code ClearCase®

If you are installing for the first time on your client host, you might want to customize your environment to make it easier to use DevOps Code ClearCase®.

Access to DevOps Code ClearCase® programs and online documentation (reference pages) depends on specific environment variable settings. The most reliable way to establish these settings is to edit your shell startup script.

Note: C shell users must avoid placing DevOps Code ClearCase® settings in the .login file, which is run only by login shells.

Startup scripts are not available for Windows™ operating systems.
