Exporting datasets

You can export a private or public dataset to a .csv file.

About this task

When you export a dataset to a .csv file, the first row (record) of the .csv file contains the variable information associated with the dataset. When you import the .csv file, be sure to select the setting First Row is Variable Information. so that the data formats correctly.

You can export a Rational® Functional Tester dataset to:

  • Add data to a dataset using a spreadsheet application -- You can export a dataset to a .csv file and then use a spreadsheet application to add more data. After you finish adding data, you can then import the .csv file into a new Functional Test dataset.
  • Use a dataset in a different Functional Test project -- Export a dataset to a .csv file and then import the data into a new dataset in a different Functional Test project.

Exporting a public dataset

Procedure

  1. Under Functional Test Projects, select a public dataset you want to export, right-click the selected public dataset, and click Export.

    2. Click Functional Test dataset to CSV File, and then click Next.
    3. Under Select a public dataset to export, either type the path to the folder you want or use the navigation tools (Home Home button, Back Back button, and Go Into Go Into button) to select the path to a different dataset.

Exporting a private dataset

Procedure

  1. In the Script Explorer, select a private dataset you want to export, right-click the selected private dataset, and click Export.
  2. Under File, type a path and file name for the .csv file or click Browse to specify a different destination directory where you want to the new .csv file to go.
  3. Click the Field Separator arrow to select the type of field separator you want to use.
  4. Click Finish.
