Installing the product by using the launchpad program

You can use the launchpad program to start the product installation when want to install all components in the package in one step and you do not have IBM® Installation Manager installed on your computer. The launchpad program uses a single location to install all applications in the package, and also installs Installation Manager.

About this task

The launchpad program is in the launchpad directory in the extracted product software package.

Procedure

  1. Select the operating system of the computer on which you want to install the products from the following options:
    • If For Windows systems., go to Step 2.
    • If For Linux systems., go to Step 3.
    • If For Mac OS X systems., go to Step 4.
  2. Perform the following steps on a For Windows systems. computer:
    1. Open the command line.
    2. Change directory to the location where the extracted product software package resides.
    3. Run the following command: launchpad.exe or launchpad64.exe for 64-bit Windows.
    4. Go to Step 5.
  3. Perform the following steps on a For Linux systems. computer:
    1. Open the terminal.
    2. Change directory to the location where the extracted product software package resides.
    3. Run the following command: launchpad.sh
    4. Go to Step 5.
  4. Perform the following steps on a For Mac OS X systems. computer:
    1. Start the Terminal application.
    2. Run the following command: export DISPLAY=:0

      You have set the DISPLAY environment variable.

    3. Change directory to the location where the extracted product software package resides.
    4. Run the following command: open Launchpad.app
      Note: Mac OS commands are case-sensitive.
    5. Go to Step 5.
    The Welcome page of the launchpad is displayed. You can read the release notes and the installation instructions from the links on the Release Information page.
    Note: You need an internet connection to connect to the IBM Documentation site to open the Release notes and installation information.
  5. Select the installation for your operating system.

    For example, click Windows Installation if you are installing on a Windows computer.

  6. Click Launch the IBM Installation Manager on the page that displays.
    The products in the package to install are displayed including IBM® Installation Manager.
    Note: All products in the package are selected for installation as the default option. You can clear the selection for the products that you do not want to install.
  7. Click Next.

    The installation starts and the progress is displayed along with the actions being performed.

    The Install Packages page is displayed.

  8. Read through the agreement, and then click I accept the terms in the license agreements option.
    Note: You can optionally print the license agreements if you want.
  9. Click Next.
  10. Perform any of the following actions to select the installation locations:
    • If you want to change the default locations, continue with the following steps:
      1. Click Browse in the Shared Resources Directory field, and then select a folder on your computer.
      2. Click Browse in the Installation Manager Directory field, and then select a folder on your computer.
      3. Click Next.
    • If you want to retain the default locations, click Next.
  11. Read through the information that is displayed and then click Next.

    An option to extend an existing Eclipse environment is displays for selection. If you are aware of the requirement and the functionality that the installed products offer by extending the existing Eclipse environment, you can enter the appropriate details on this page. If you are not aware or do not intent to extend an existing Eclipse environment, continue with the next step.

  12. Click Next.
  13. Select the languages other than English in which you want to install the products, and then click Next.

    The products in the package along with Installation Manager are displayed as selected for installation.

Results

If Installation Manager is not already installed, it is installed. After the installation is complete, the Installation Manager Install Packages page opens, where you select the packages to install and continue with the installation.
