Floating licenses

You can purchase floating licenses for Rational® Test Automation Server and install the licenses on the Rational License Key Server. You must be an administrator to configure the purchased floating licenses in Rational® Test Automation Server.

When you log in to Rational® Test Automation Server as a new user, you must consider the following points:
  • The No licenses configured dialog box is displayed.
  • The New Project button is disabled.
  • The No licenses configured dialog box is displayed if you click Settings > Configure Licenses.
After the administrator configures the licenses, you can start creating projects in Rational® Test Automation Server. You can view the following details in the Available licenses dialog box that is displayed when you click Settings > Configure Licenses.
Field Description
License usage The number of licenses that are currently in use.
Maximum number of floating licenses The total number of floating licenses that are configured by the administrator.
A single floating license is used from the total number of floating licenses that are configured by the administrator when you perform any of the following tasks for the first time on Rational® Test Automation Server:
  • Create a project as your first action after you log in.
  • Log in subsequently and open a project that you created as your first action.
  • Open a project of which you are already a member as your first action after you log in.
  • Run tests on any of the third-party applications that are integrated with Rational® Test Automation Server.
The floating license that was assigned to you is returned to the license pool when you perform any of the following actions:
  • Log out from Rational® Test Automation Server.
  • End your session on Rational® Test Automation Server or your session is timed out.
  • Completed the test runs on any of the third-party applications that are integrated with Rational® Test Automation Server.
