Administrator guide
This guide, which is intended for an administrator, describes how to install IBM® Rational® Test Automation Server software. After you install the software, you can administer the server. Administration tasks can include License configuration, User management, Security, Memory and disk usage management, Backup and restore user data.
Licensing
You must configure the number of purchased floating licenses in Rational® Test Automation Server for the users to create a project and perform other tasks in the project.
Floating licenses
You can purchase floating licenses for Rational® Test Automation Server and install the licenses on the Rational License Key Server. You must be an administrator to configure the purchased floating licenses in Rational Test Automation Server.

- Installation of Rational® Test Automation Server
  To get started with IBM® Rational® Test Automation Server, you must first install the server software.
- Backing up and restoring the user data
  You might want to restore an earlier environment state if you install a new version of Rational® Test Automation Server, move environments to different systems (both real and virtual), or set up a test environment ready for testing. To address any of these needs, you can back up and restore Rational Test Automation Server user data installed either on Ubuntu or on Red Hat OpenShift platform.
- Uninstallation of the server software
  When you no longer require Rational® Test Automation Server, you can uninstall the server software. You can uninstall the server software depending on the platform on which you installed the server software.
- Configuration of the server software
  You can find information about the tasks that you must perform after you installed the server software to configure Rational® Test Automation Server.
- Licensing
  You must configure the number of purchased floating licenses in Rational® Test Automation Server for the users to create a project and perform other tasks in the project.

    You can purchase floating licenses for Rational® Test Automation Server and install the licenses on the Rational License Key Server. You must be an administrator to configure the purchased floating licenses in Rational Test Automation Server.

Floating licenses

You can purchase floating licenses for Rational® Test Automation Server and install the licenses on the Rational License Key Server. You must be an administrator to configure the purchased floating licenses in Rational® Test Automation Server.

When you log in to Rational® Test Automation Server as a new user, you must consider the following points:

The No licenses configured dialog box is displayed.
The New Project button is disabled.
The No licenses configured dialog box is displayed if you click Settings > Configure Licenses.

After the administrator configures the licenses, you can start creating projects in Rational® Test Automation Server. You can view the following details in the Available licenses dialog box that is displayed when you click Settings > Configure Licenses.


Field	Description
License usage	The number of licenses that are currently in use.
Maximum number of floating licenses	The total number of floating licenses that are configured by the administrator.

A single floating license is used from the total number of floating licenses that are configured by the administrator when you perform any of the following tasks for the first time on Rational® Test Automation Server:

Create a project as your first action after you log in.
Log in subsequently and open a project that you created as your first action.
Open a project of which you are already a member as your first action after you log in.
Run tests on any of the third-party applications that are integrated with Rational® Test Automation Server.

The floating license that was assigned to you is returned to the license pool when you perform any of the following actions:

Log out from Rational® Test Automation Server.
End your session on Rational® Test Automation Server or your session is timed out.
Completed the test runs on any of the third-party applications that are integrated with Rational® Test Automation Server.
