Installation of the server software

To get started with IBM® Rational® Test Automation Server, you must first install the server software.

You can install Rational® Test Automation Server on the following platforms:

  • Red Hat OpenShift V4.4 or later

  • Ubuntu (using k3s)

Note: As part of the installation process, you can restore user data from a backup file. The backup file might be either from a previous version or the current version of the server software. Depending on the backup file that you have, the procedures for restoring the backups are different.

Task flow for installing the sever software on Red Hat OpenShift

The following steps describes tasks to be performed in brief to install Rational® Test Automation Server:

  1. Set up a Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform.

  2. Install the Jaeger operator to trace test logs and Jaeger-based reports when you run tests.

  3. Install the OpenShift Container Platform command-line interface (CLI) and the Helm software.

  4. Back up the user data from the previous version.

  5. Install Rational® Test Automation Server.

  6. Configure and manage the license.

Task flow for installing the sever software on Ubuntu

The following steps describes tasks to be performed in brief to install Rational® Test Automation Server:

  1. Set up a Ubuntu server.

  2. Install the OpenSSH server and the Helm software.

  3. Set up the k3s Kubernetes environment along with other optional configurations such as firewall, Jaeger, and Prometheus server.

  4. Back up the user data from the previous version.

  5. Install Rational® Test Automation Server.

  6. Configure and manage the license.
