Configuring floating licenses

As an administrator, you must configure the number of purchased floating licenses in Rational® Test Automation Server so that users can create a project and perform other tasks in the project.

Before you begin

  • You must have installed the product and signed up as a user on Rational® Test Automation Server.

  • You must be an administrator of Rational® Test Automation Server.

About this task

As an administrator, you can assign the role of an administrator to any user. For information about how to change the role, see the related link.
Note: When your role from a user is changed to an administrator, you must log out and log in again so that Rational® Test Automation Server can apply the change in your role.

Procedure

  1. Log in to Rational® Test Automation Server.

The Configure licensing dialog box is displayed for the first time you log in or if the licenses are not configured.

Alternatively, you can access the Configure Licenses option by clicking the User icon user_icon.

  2. Enter the number of floating user licenses in the No. of floating users (Max) field.

Alternatively, you can use the up-down control buttons to change the number of licenses in the field.

Remember: You must ensure that the number of floating licenses that you configure does not exceed the number of licenses you have purchased.
  3. Enter the value in the Rational License Key Server field, if you want to provide the value that is different from the value configured during the installation of Rational® Test Automation Server.
  4. Click Configure to verify that you have entered the permissible number of licenses that you want to use on this server.
The Licensing compliance dialog box is displayed.
Important: You can allocate the purchased licenses across multiple servers only if the total number of floating users that you configure across the servers does not exceed the total number of purchased licenses.
  5. Click Confirm to apply the license configuration.
  6. Enter the name or the email ID of the users in the Add prioritized floating users field, and then select the name from the list that is displayed to add users to the Prioritized Floating Users list.
Note: You can press the Ctrl key to select multiple users simultaneously.
  7. Click Add to make selected users as the prioritized floating users.
  8. Perform the following actions described in the following table to remove or replace users from the Prioritized Floating Users list:
    Options Actions
    Remove Perform the following steps:
    1. Locate the user from the Prioritized Floating Users list that you want to remove.

    2. Click the Menu icon menu_icon next to the name of the user, and then click Remove.
