Importing recorded events

To retrieve the recorded events, you can import them from a Recording Studio history file or from IBM® Rational® Test Control Panel.

Before you begin

The Rational® Test Control Panel import capability is available only in Rational® Integration Tester 8.5.1 or later.

Before you can import recorded events from Rational® Test Control Panel, you must ensure that your Rational® Integration Tester project is connected to a valid instance of Rational® Test Control Panel. To ensure that the connection is working correctly, click Project > Project Settings on the menu bar, click the Server Settings tab on the Project Settings window, and verify that a green checkmark icon is displayed next to the URL field on the Rational Test Control Panel area of the tab. If there is no URL displayed or if there is a red cross icon next to the URL field, you should contact your Rational® Integration Tester project administrator.

About this task

Importing recorded events from a Recording Studio history file enables you to retrieve recorded events that were generated during an earlier user session for your project and import those events into Recording Studio.

In contrast, importing recorded events from Rational® Test Control Panel enables you to import recorded events to your project that were previously exported to Rational® Test Control Panel by you or another user.

Any recorded events imported into your project can be used to create tests and stubs.

Restriction:
  • There are limitations with importing recorded events into a project that is different from the project from which they were exported. For more information about this, see http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21647162.
  • If you are using Rational® Test Control Panel 8.5.1.1 or later and domain-level security is enabled, you can view recordings only for domains to which you have been granted access.
When importing a Recording Studio history file created by 8.6.0 or later, the original Enabled and Color attributes are also restored.

Procedure

  1. Open the Recording Studio perspective.
  2. On the toolbar of the Events View window, click Import events (Import selected events).

The Import Recorded Events wizard is displayed.

  3. Select an import option:

      • Enter labels in the field provided. Use spaces to separate the labels.
      • Click Select from existing to open the Existing labels window. The labels available in the currently selected domain are displayed. Select a label and click OK.
    4. If you click Search, you must select at least one of the Name, Descriptions, or Labels check boxes as required to specify your precise search query for Rational® Test Control Panel.
    5. Click Next. The Matching recordings from Rational® Test Control Panel window is displayed.
    6. If your search was successful, the results are displayed in the Matching recordings from Rational® Test Control Panel window. If the recorded events data that you are seeking is included in the search results, select the check box next to it. You can also view detailed information about a recording if you double-click it in the search results.

If your search was unsuccessful, click Back and change your search parameters. For example, if you clicked Search on the Find recorded events from Rational® Test Control Panel window, select a different check box or combination of check boxes. If your search queries continue to be unsuccessful, you might need to verify that you are searching the correct Rational® Test Control Panel instance and domain. To verify the instance and domain settings, open the Project Settings window and review the URL field and the Domain list on the Rational® Test Control Panel area on the Server Settings tab. If you are unsure about either setting, contact your Rational® Integration Tester project administrator.

If you want to remove the existing monitors and events while importing the new ones, then select the check box Remove existing monitors and events. If you leave the check box unselected (which is the default), then the existing events and monitors are retained.
    7. Click Finish.
